About the venue

The Folklore Review is a two-day open event that marks the beginning of the Week of Culture in Mogilany. It is dedicated to folk ensembles, dance duos, traditional bands, instrumentalists, vocal groups, folk singers, and storytellers — offering a wide audience a unique opportunity to engage with the living cultural heritage of the region.

The competition performances are evaluated by a professional Artistic Committee in three age categories: children, youth, and adults. A special place is given to the "master and apprentice" category, aimed at those who pass on their skills to the next generation of folk artists.

Each year, around 500 performers take part in the event, coming from ten counties of the Małopolska region (Kraków, Chrzanów, Myślenice, Bochnia, Wieliczka, Miechów, Olkusz, Oświęcim, Proszowice, and Wadowice), as well as from the Silesian Voivodeship (Zawiercie County).

The Review is not only a celebration for folk artists — it is also a colorful and spectacular event for the general public. As part of the Week of Culture in Mogilany, we create a space for shared experience and discovery of tradition in a modern form.
The event will conclude on May 25 at 5:00 PM with a summary of the Review, the announcement of results, and the awarding of statuettes to the winners.

About the Statuette

The award presented to the winners is the SPINKA KRAKOWSKA statuette.
Made of brass, it features a relief of a peacock feather topped with a traditional Kraków ornament — the spinka krakowska — a distinctive element of the folk costume, most often sewn onto Kraków-style caps.

The spinka takes the form of a round applique with a red center, symbolizing life and energy. In the statuette, it represents a mark of distinction — “connecting” the cultural and artistic heritage of the region.

At the base of the statuette is a decorative motif of the cieszynianka — a flower species native to Mogilany, which has inspired traditional folk ornaments typical of the region.
